What to actually do in the fortnight before you fly

Most of a journey happens before anybody leaves, and the last two weeks are when the useful preparation is possible.

Fourteen days out: check the passport has six months on it and two clear pages. Confirm the visa is approved and printed. Tell your bank and your card provider where you are going.

Ten days: ask for the final day-by-day with drive times in hours. Read it properly. This is the moment to say that four hours in a car on day six looks grim, because it is still changeable.

Seven days: ask who your driver is and who the guides are. Ask what the weather is actually doing where you are going, which at this range is a real forecast and not a seasonal average.

Three days: download offline maps, put the local emergency numbers and your own contact's number in your phone, and photograph your passport and visa into a private note.

The day before: get some sleep. Most people land at two in the morning after a long flight and then try to do a full first day. Build the first afternoon as nothing in particular and the whole trip starts better.

And ask anything here. That is what the room is for.
