Thirty-odd new pieces, and what we are trying to do here
We have put a large batch of writing into the rooms this week — on when to come, where to sleep, how to move, what to eat, what to wear in a temple and what nobody warns you about at altitude.
Two things about it worth stating openly.
First, it is written by the curators here, under their own names, and it is aimed squarely at somebody planning a first trip from Europe or America. Where our view is against our own commercial interest — that December is overrated, that Jaisalmer often should not be on your route, that a luxury train is the wrong holiday for about half the people who ask about it — we have said so.
Second, it is free and it is meant to be used. Plenty of what we do is knowable, and a traveller who reads these rooms carefully can plan a decent trip alone. What we sell is the judgement for your particular fortnight and somebody answerable on the day something goes wrong.
