The map lies to you about distances here
Two hundred kilometres in Rajasthan is four and a half hours. Two hundred kilometres in Kerala is five. Two hundred kilometres in the hills can be seven, and in winter it can be a day you do not get back.
Nothing is wrong with the roads. The arithmetic is just different: single carriageway for long stretches, towns the highway goes through rather than around, and traffic that includes everything from a tractor to a wedding.
This is the single most common planning error we see, and it is always made at home with a laptop and a map that quotes motorway speeds.
Two practical rules. Anything over about five hours should be a flight or a night somewhere in between, not a heroic drive. And a drive that looks fine on paper gets a different answer in July than in January.
Ask whoever is planning your trip for the drive times, in hours, not kilometres. If they quote kilometres they are reading the same map you are.
