Karnataka and Kerala — Mysore, Ooty and Munnar over sixteen days
The hill route through the south, which almost nobody asks for by name.
Mysore then Ooty then Munnar is three different sets of hills in one line, and the driving between them is some of the best in the country. It is also cooler than anywhere on the northern circuit, which matters if you are coming in April or May.
If the Golden Triangle sounds crowded to you this is the alternative worth reading about.
